WE'RE BACK.....!!!!!....in hedland, that is, land of orange cockies!!!!

Hey guys
Me and Paul are back in Port Hedland to live and work for a couple of years.Darwin was a great place to be and live for the year & 1/2, but our contract pre-packing ran out, so after many different options, decided to get back over west...good to be back, great to be in the same town as lee-lee and kate again and the rest of the lovely port hedland-ites....including the crazed orange dust infused cockatoo's!!!
We are staying with some of Pauls friends at the mo who awesomely have a big arse pool and are very chilled out melloow beer drinking barbie loving fellows...we move into our new pad late april (well, its the size really of a dog kennel, but thats cool, its super dooper hard to get any real accommodation here, so will do till anything else pops up for under $700 per week!!! Anyway, when we get into our pad we'll get the internet set up and landline and all that jazz so i can skype and ring ya's, and sent some photos!!! Lots of cute as bali monkey pics to be viewed thats for sure!!! Anyway, hope you're all well & happy as larry, although i don't know to whom i'm saying that cos no one leaves any comments in the appropriate comments box BELOW THIS POSTING, so i guess no one reads this site!!!! HA!!! I'm just writing to myself and filling myself in with my news so i know whats happening in my life!!~!!!HA HA, thats even funnier!!! Any-hoo, love to you all Yvette

FRANGAPANI CENTRAL!!!!!

Hey there all........Had to show some pics of the fantastic Frangapani flowers...man alive, they are the most beautiful smelling flower, really intense, almost sickly but not in a nasty way at all. You always get a good whiff of them when you're cruising around, espesh on a super calm warm night ( thats most nights actually!!) you get big clouds of frangapani fumes coming your way!! The streets are lined with them, unfotunately they don't last long in a vase!! Its super awesome what grows here, we picked fresh mangoes off the trees, unbelievably delish!!! espesh with vanilla ice cream....made my first batch of mango chutney, yummo!!! Coconuts growing too!! Paul was doing a bit of tree lopping in the dry season and would bring home heaps of coconuts, bit of a mish at first trying to figure out how to get inside them, but sussed it...the juice was great, not like the old supermarket numbers ( even thought they are tasty as too!!) but a different kind of juice, kinda like magic water!! mmmmm, i love magic water!!! Also, yesterday me and Paul went hunting for bait to go fishing and are quite the fans of using a cast net ( feel very much the island girl when-ever i use it!!! Gathering for my family and tribe bro!!) Anyway, we caught some good bait, mullet, which the fish freak out about!!! Anyway, i showed Paul a spot that i thought would be a bit fruitful, he threw the net a nd caught a big barramundi!!! Its one of the most revered fish here in the outback....pretty tasty....still reckon atlantic salmon kicks arse totally though. Well, thats me, do feel free to leave comments on this site!! I like comments!!!
The next installment will be about our shaggin wagon!!!

A few more from desert days..........

A few more pics, the lovely kate and her fab boyfriend John, and some other bits and bobs......

OH THE DUSTY DIRTY DAYS OF THE PILBARA DESERT.......

So, thought i'd show you all a few pics of where me and Kate went to from Nz to go and make our millions.Port Hedland is in the Pilbara desert in the top left hand corner of the western state of oz, and is a very orange and sphiafexed & arid land mass ( even the cockatoo's are orange!! ) It is a very small town, has a mall with all your necessary shops ( the vege's are SO expensive and shite!!! They get trucked up from Perth, and by the time you get to buy them, are a bit wilted!!!) Has a few eateries ( of course a few of your dirty takeaway joints too) and in South Hedland ( there's a north part which is a bit more up market thatn the bronx of south...) is the infamous pub called Last Chance, a.k.a " spear chuckers" ( alot of the 24/7 drunken aboriginals would hang out there very loudly, and cause a few dramas, hence the name...i even got a slap across the face from a grandma aboriginal and called a few nasty names just for being a white girl!! Anyway, won't start to go on about all that stuff, reverse racism...blah blah....) So had quite a few good sessions at that pub, me and Kate waiting for the doors to open at 9.30am, needy....she having just finished night shift, me keen to do something with my days off....Real top people in Hedland though, most people were just working mental hours, cramming in the work so they could save, and leave.....but always so keen for a beer and a barbie mate!!! Had some top times, learnt alot about the art of BBQ's, you never really eat inside cos its so nice outside ( if you could hack the flies, cover up every single food thing with paper towels etc...)
Anyway, the first pic is from a truck ride i went on with Paul out to the Telfer gold mines ( he used to drive road trains of fuel to various mine sites, and would often do crazy back to back shifts like alot of the fellas did, and have virtually no time to sleep, and when he did, was too hot, or too noisy cos everyone else was up, a same old story for most of the workers over there) This was a 17 hour return trip, and when i got out of the truck, ( this pic was taken approx 7am) i almost fainted cos it was 38 degrees, and had been in the nice cushy air con cab for most of the time!! The next pic is the fantastic Lee-Lee and Paul on our swisho balcony that was about 1 cubic metre, but somehow me and the girls and other company would squash ourselves into the wee box with our bourbon & cokes!!! The next pic is of the fabulous international style airport that me and Kate had the pleasure of arriving at!!! Thats all she is!! When we were descending i thought we must of been dropping some doctor off into remote bushland for something cos i hadn't seen any life, but no ,we were in the right place, its just that everything was camouflaged by orange dirt and sphiafex!!! And then when i hopped off the plane in my denim jacketed white kiwi body, thought the motors of the plane must have been pumping it, cos they were blowing out some pretty fierce heat, but the as i got to the doors from the tarmac realised that it was just the normal old weather!!!The next is from when i was little miss courier driver for a while, and saw this spot in behind the Hedland high school and thought it was worth snapping...and then its a pic of what they call a "willie-willie" ( i don't know why its called this, i came to my own conclusions on that one....) Well, thats about it, hope you are all well, and can't wait to see you all next year when we come over for a visit, have to bring lots of woollies to wear!!! If you have any comments or wanna have a yarn, there is a comment box at the bottom of each of these postings, just click on it, and off you go!!! Our land line number is +61889421077, or cell phone +61405095192. Till next time, Ciao xxxxxx

BYNOE HARBOUR OUT & ABOUT.........

hey all!!
Been a while since our last update......It's totally heating up our way, a sure 33-35 degrees every day, but also the ole humidity is fully picking up!!! The buildup season is fully upon us, lots of hard core crazy arse storm cloud and lightening but still no rain!!! It's what they call the troppo season and you can fully see the change in everyone........Anyway, it's so fully cool to see and live in such intense weather patterns....got our cyclone guide of whats coming up in the paper the other day, all very exciting! We went on a fishing adventure in the weekend with some friends, a fantastic place called bynoe harbour; we went to a part of it thats owned by a pearling company in darwin and were lucky enough to stay at this old pearl farm which was crazy wild outback land, but with luxuries like toilets, outside bar/pool area and a commercial type kitchen. It was a mistake work camp for pearl labourers; they realised the spot was too hot for any farming so is now a holiday get away for Papasley pearl workers and the owner...The camp was set up in the 70's and was a fully equipped outfit for people to live and work, darwin being a slightly inconvienient distance away for a schooner or bite to eat.....so it's just a big piece of land with about 20 shacks or so that look like they've survived a few cyclones!!! It was really a photographers sream ( i was totally thinking of Mike & Rach and Mr Fahey and Boolag whilst cruising round ) hardly anyone goes there, its got a full time caretaker, and seems such a waste of beautiful land. Lots of massive Goanas, frogs hiding in the toilet bowl and quickly doing an about turn when it saw you coming into the loo and back up the "s" bend when you wanted to go!!!.... and top fishing!!! We didn't really catch much, ( i caught a few scratches on my bottom from throwing the cast net for live bait at 3am and fell into the oyster shell ridden billabong tho!!) were only there for a night, so drinking and yarning to be done, but definitely gave it a red hot go wetting the old line and caught a few delights. Well, thats about it from me, hope its heating up your way ( apart from port hedland! )
Tally ho for now, Yvette

Hey all
thought i'd show ya all some pictures of a fishing trip (very australiana i know the ole fishing thing, but man, i'm addicted, means you chill and drink and catch food you love to eat!!!) Any-hoo, we did a fantastic charter 400 k's off the east coast out great barrier reef way,(went to many reefs and reef breaks, breath taking stuff!!) and was one of the most awesomest things i've ever done....it was 6 days worth, and was super dooper rad, all your meals cooked ( first ever in my life, apart from fantastic mummy days...) really nice deck-hand lads to sort you out with bait and advice ( not that i needed it cos paul is well the crocodile dundee fisho man....anyway, the life in the water was spectacular, like the most massivest turtles everswimming around saying hello, the most venomous snakes slithering by, heaps of beaut fish jumping on your hooks saying "pick me, pick me", and coral of every colour that i was convinced i could touch if i put my hand in the water, but was that clear it was actually 100 ft or so below!!! i was the only kiwi on board ( of course), and only chick, and when i came 3rd in the drinking tally out of 18 men, i think i gained respect fully!!!! ( cos of course you get so much grief for being in oz as a kiwi most of the time, especially in the remot-er places where it can be awfully redneck and many years behind the times...which i kinda like too....) Anyway, thats it from me for now, lots of love, yvette
